The KUBS Startup Institute was launched on September 8. The tour of the KUBS Startup Institute and KUBS Main Building was offered during the opening ceremony where over 170 KUBS professors and alumni were present.

The KUBS Startup Institute, located on the second floor of the KUBS Main Building, is a channel where future entrepreneurs with diverse backgrounds share ideas, collaborate, and fulfill their ambitions. The KUBS Startup Institute provides a wide range of support for free, such as startup business networking and education.

As part of the “Opening Ceremony of Renovated KUBS Main Building and KUBS Startup Institute,” Softank Ventures Korea CEO Gyu-hak Moon delivered his keynote speech, “Korea University, Be a University with Entrepreneurial Spirit!” at the SUPEX Hall in LG-POSCO Building. CEO Moon, the first generation of venture capital in Korea, began his keynote speech by saying “As being part of the startup ecosystem, I want you all to think about how will we proceed further.”

While CEO Moon emphasized that startup is the future of the country, he gave examples of companies succeeding the startups after the Great Recession. “Although it may be difficult to establish a company worth 200 trillion KRW as a whole, think about 200 people making 200 companies each worth 1 trillion KRW,” Moon told the move-in teams. “I look forward to seeing you becoming one of those.”

He also stressed “frame,” meaning that prospective entrepreneurs should set up goals for their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. “Set a frame and go long,” CEO Moon added. “In a broader context, if entrepreneurs set a goal and make specific plans, they have already made it halfway through their startup businesses.” The Opening Ceremony of KUBS Startup Institute was completed after the keynote speech followed by another event held in Ahn Young Il Hall of the LG-POSCO Building.

The prospective entrepreneurs will move into the “Iljin Center for Startup Incubation” and start their business there. A total of seven move-in teams, selected through the “2016 Startup Express” held in July, obtained an opportunity to move into the center for the first time ever. The four winning teams are △HIMS, △Taling, △CICERON, and △SupportUS. The three teams which are △Kidop, △Campus Fund, and △Trendist were additionally selected. Meanwhile, 23 universities from 4 countries applied for the 2016 Startup Express and went through the application screening and presentation stages.
